Since Durango’s founding in 1880, people from throughout the western United States have found their way to the “Queen City of San Juan’s” in southwest Colorado. Whether for the historical opportunities found during Durango’s founding days (mining, ranching, natural resources) or more recently for the wide variety vacation and quality of life options found in Durango in the 21st century, Durango has been the destination for many visitors over the past 125 years. In recent history, Durango has become well known for unique special events. Snowdown is one of Colorado’s oldest winter celebrations (since 1979). The Iron Horse Classic is one of Colorado’s most well known road and mountain bike weekends (Memorial Day).
